Biographical Note:
Dr. Sven Friedrich, born 1963, comes from Hamburg. After training as a bank clerk, he studied theatre science, modern German literature and communication science in Munich and has been director of the Richard Wagner Museum in Bayreuth (Haus Wahnfried) since 1993, including the National Archives and research centre of the Richard Wagner Foundation, the Franz Liszt Museum and the Jean Paul Museum. In the summer he holds the introductions to the productions of the Festival in the Festspielhaus. He is co-editor and founding editor of the magazine ‘wagnerspectrum’ and the series ‘Wagner in der Diskussion’ at Königshausen & Neumann (Würzburg). Numerous lectures, essays, audio books and exhibitions on Richard Wagner’s life, work and effects. Publications a.o.: Das auratische Kunstwerk. Zur Ästhetik von Richard Wagners Musiktheater-Utopie (Dissertation, Tübingen 1996); Richard Wagner – Deutung und Wirkung (Würzburg 2004); Richard Wagner – Werke, Schriften und Briefe, CD-ROM Digitale Bibliothek Bd. 107 (Berlin 2004); Richard Wagners Opern. Ein musikalischer Werkführer (München 2012), Richard Wagner im Spiegel seiner Zeit (Frankfurt 2013).
