A note from James Black Management
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
In November 2009 and January 2010, Alwyn Mellor auditioned in Frankfurt and New York and was cast as Brünnhilde in Seattle Opera’s Bi-Centenary Ring Cycles.
Since then, she has sung Brünnhilde in Die Walkure and Siegfried for Longborough Festival Opera and the Opéra national de Paris (an epic fourteen performances, seven of each), Brünnhilde in Siegfried for Den Nye Oper and Oper Leipzig and Brünnhilde for the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kent Nagano. She also triumphed as Isolde in her debut performances as Isolde at Grange Park Opera.
Now, “cette belle Wagnérienne” (Forum Opéra) who is “set to become one of the great Wagnerian sopranos of her generation” (Opera Now) sings her first complete staged cycles. Asher Fisch conducts Stephen Wadsworth’s production with Stefan Vinke as Siegfried, Greer Grimsley as Wotan / Der Wanderer, Stuart Skelton as Siegmund, Margaret Jane Wray as Sieglinde, Stephanie Blythe as Fricka and Waltraute (Götterdämmerung), Richard Paul Fink as Alberich and Daniel Sumegi as Hagen.
Performance dates are:-
Cycle One
4, 5, 7, 9 August
Cycle Two
12, 13, 15, 17 August
Cycle Three
20, 21, 23, 25 August
It is envisaged that the production will be broadcast on consecutive Saturdays beginning 10 August.
Speight Jenkins, General Director of Seattle Opera, says, Alwyn Mellor “has the youth and vulnerability of a Brünnhilde, moves wonderfully, but sings marvellously.” There’s a link to Speight Jenkins’ introductory video about Alwyn on the Wagner Society website here.

Best wishes,
